Located to the north of Wu Hill, there is anancient resplendent and magnificent architectural complex of Hu Qing Yu Tang drugstore. The whole drugstore was designed and finally completed in 1874 by Hu Xue-yan, a famous official merchant in the late Qing Dynasty. In the building of the structure, Hu-Xue yan imitated the style of southern garden and courtyard, and spent three hundred thousand taels of silver. The imposing structure seems to be a celestial crane standing at the foot of Wu Hill. Inheriting the good tradition of the Burean of imperial Physicians compiling Prescriptions of Peaceful Benevolent Dispenay in the song Dynasty, the drugstore has collected traditional effective prescriptions, and meticulously prepared various kinds of medicine with the dosageforms of pill, powder, glue, pellet, etc. to benefit the world, heal the wounded, and rescue the dying.

All trades in the intense competition are like hundreds of boats sailing at full speed in the river. Looking through the history of Hu Qing Yu Tang, one can realize that the farsighted view, the unremitting effort, and strict management make the drugstore one of the key pharmaceutical factories in China. At the initial stage of the drugstore, Hu Xueyan carved "Benevolent Enterprise" into the stone

threshold of the business hall. Hanging in the hall, there is a golden horizontal board inscribed "Net Price," 3m high and 0.9m wide. In the inner side of the store, the aphorism "Avoiding Deception" was written. The chapter of "Avoiding Deception" is as follows: "All trades, and especially pharmacy, should avoid deception. Pharmacy is closely concenned in one's life. Be careful and meticulous in the preparation of medicines. The choice materials should be used." The staff and workers of the drugstore adhere to professional morality and pay more attention to the quality of the products. For quality control of ZiXue Dan (a pellet effective in treating high fever), the drugstore uses the gold pot and silver shovel. The gold pot and silver shovel are negarded as treasures manifesting the attachment for the quality control of the products of the drugstore.

Hu Qing Yu Tang Pharmaceutical factory, just like the tree with deep roots and luxuriant leaves, has been getting prosperious. Recently in the tide of the market economy, the factory is developing more attractively for its farsighted view, dasking spirit for reformation, advocating of science, and blazing of new trials. Even greater achievements have been obtained, inheriting and developing the excellent theory of traditional Chinese medicine, the factory has prepared a lot of products with modern technique, such as famous Weifuchun Pian (Stomach Rehabilitatin Tablets), QingYu jiuxin Wan (pills for heart disease), Zhang Yi San (Cataract-relieving Powder), XiaoerXiexie Ting (Granules for relieving children diarrhea), Jin Guo Yanho Pian (Jin Guo suck Tablets for throat disorder). The qualities of the products are stable because of the practices of GMP and usages of such modern pharmaceutical equipments as High performance sprayer, Thin coating of tablets, High Performance chromatography, and Thin Layer scanner.

By the requirements of GMP, the factory buildings were rebuilt in the green lawns on Hang Hai Road. The buildings are clean and tidy. The staff and workers are working hard. There appears a picture of prosperity in the factory. The former factory buildings at the foot of Wu Hill is used as the first museum of traditional Chinese medicine, one of the key protections of historical relics in China. The historic relic takes on a new look after renovation looking more splendid. The abundant cultural heritage is greatly arousing interest of the visitors at home and abroad. Leaders of many states come and inscribe words to encourage the staff and workers of the factory.

In 1999, Hu Qing Yu Tang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. was set up as Hu Qing Yu Tang completed the reformation of state enterprise successfully.
